Phipps Loses in Pennsylvania; Antonio Russell Returns To Action In Boston; Nicholson Competes In Philadelphia!

A late result from Saturday.  Baltimore, MD heavyweight Jed "The Punisher" Phipps was stopped in the fifth round by Daniel "The Mountain" Martz of Clarksburg, WVA on a card at Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington, PA.

According to Fightnews.com, Phipps was game but overmatched in the contest against the 6'7, 257-pound Martz, who dropped Phipps in the first and fourth rounds and then finished the job with a straight right hand that ended the bout at 1:59 of the fifth.

Phipps is now 19-10, 11 KO's while Martz is 13-2-1, 10 KO's.

Two more Beltway Boxers will be in action in the next two weeks.  Capitol Heights, MD bantamweight Antonio Russell will be in his second bout as a pro on Saturday, May 23 when he faces Brandon Ali Garvin of Philadelphia, PA in a four-round bout at the Agganis Arena on the campus of Boston University in Boston, MA.

Russell won his pro debut on January 31 in Philadelphia, PA with a second-round knockout of Harold Reyes.  Garvin lost his pro debut on April 10 in Melrose, MA when he was stopped in the first round by Marcos Forestal.

Also, Laurel, MD middleweight Demond "D Best At It" Nicholson returns to action in his first scheduled eight-round contest at the Stadium Holiday Inn in Philadelphia, PA on Friday, May 29.  Nicholson (12-1, 12 KO's) has won two straight since suffering his only pro loss in November of 2014.  There is no word yet on Nicholson's opponent.
